LOT (The Polish Airline)
I recommend avoiding the non-stop LOT flight directly to Warsaw. It is a smaller airline that will likely be your connection from whatever hub in Europe you fly in to. The drawbacks (vs other airlines) included the minimal leg space, lack of entertainment and luxuries, and bad air circulation.
Connections in airports around Europe on flights coming from the US are often missed. By planning to come in Thursday or Friday (Saturday at the latest) you will have time to deal with this inconvenience. If you are fortunate enough to land in Warsaw on-time you will have additional time to enjoy the capital city or make the trek to Białystok.
International travel has its own risks relating to travel delays and missed connections. Most flights have at least one or two connections, and approximately 10% of the participants experience travel delays and missed connections. Additionally, upon entry into the European Union, you will have a potentially substantial delay for passport control and security settings. By planning to arrive Friday or Saturday at the latest, you will have time to deal with this inconvenience. If you are fortunate enough to land in Warsaw on-time, you will have additional time to enjoy the capital city or take the bus straight to Bialystok. Dormitories can be available as early as Thursday before orientation on request for a nominal additional cost.
While no airline is perfect, many participants have had positive experiences with Delta, KLM, American Airlines, and Continental. A few participants have reported comfort and connection problems with other economy airlines such as LOT, Air Baltica, and Southwest. When deciding which airline is correct for you, checking online reviews may be helpful.
